They are social constructions: the designation os social groupings was to fill certain social classes and types of work. So the: artcfially construct these categres of race to legitimize to force people into certain types of work. Also that it has real consequences in these peoples lives. Up until 1500s, being a religious minority meant experining discrimination. It meant laws were in place to limit your oppurtnities and toimpoverish you: colonization caused modern concepts of race occurred. Its not minorities that are racialized, ist everyone!!! The process by which it happens is so normative that it gets rendered normative. Its expected to be a part of the normative.
