Book of genesis: a geneology, after adam and eve: what offspring were produced, who they produced. Defied solely through blood (share ancestor) , and or legal ties (adoption, marriage contract) Indeginous families adopted children, legitimate legal ties through a contract. Before married first an second cousin to keep family intact (blood and legal ties) Ensure survival of that religious community (b/c cultural, religious continuity, legal reasons for the preservation of race- whiteness) Problem: most families do not look like this, in these narrow ways. Ppl who live away from each other no contract don"t fit this, re-partnering after divorce or widowed, the children don"t have blood or legal ties are not present. Dfn is outdated, and problematic, leaves out in most cases that ppl who recognize others as fam, and those intern consider them families , doesn"t take account how most ppl live today.
