Document Summary
Separate spheres and co-operative relations: men can help around the house but it was mainly a women"s job inside the house. Towards shared spheres and the changing relations: men would complain about doing work, would say they would do it and not do it. Women do more of the domestic work to this day. Women who work still earn less than men. Before industrialization in the west, the work involved in reproducing the self and the work involved: today we have to buy our food, and to buy food we have to work for a wage. After buying food you have to prepare the food: before you worked on the farm, produce your own crop, and prepared your own food. There was not a separation from the means of survival and everyday life: subsistence food, social reproduction preparing food/ buying foodc.
