Immigration, labour, and the development of the canadian capitalist state. African canadians - came to canada to get away from the marginalization in the states only to find out learned that marginalization would occur in canada as well. In 1910 a report was put out stating that canada had enough trouble dealing with white immigrants and did not need the trouble of coloured immigrants. Chinese canadians - were encouraged to come to canada solely for the purpose of labour exploitation. They were not allowed to bring their wives or have relations with white women for fear of spreading the yellow menace . The white population was putting pressure on the government to limit chinese immigration. Japanese canadians - also labour exploited and after pearl harbour they were put in detention camps (released in 1947). However, demands were high and chinese immigrants were recruited. However, the federal government passed legislation to limit the amount of chinese immigrants.
