Equality means we are exactly the same. Same level, start at same level then be able achieve the same things. Equity needs to be achieved before we can have conversations about equity. We understand that there are inequality in sports culture and these inequalities can result in barriers for access and competition for some groups. Examples: fifer banned women wearing hijabs in football saying there are dangers etc Iranian women were trying to qualify for games but refused to remove hijabs. The term was coined by black scholar kimberly. Focuses on how privilege and discrimination are experienced. We experience discrimination and privilege based on marker of identity, race, religion, ethnicity, accents, nationality, income, disability. In order to understand privilege and discrimination we have to understand individual lives are experienced through overlapping or intersection identities. Black women couldn"t get jobs at general motors. The gendered organization of the sports world (coakley & donnelly, 2009: sports are male-dominated.
