Theories of education- structural-functionalist theories (body of society, and things have to work naturally in order for society to move forward and to benefit society as a whole. However, there is no explanation as to why things are the way they are and people are supposed to accept it without question), the function of education is to teach children meritocratic principles of earned differences. Furthermore, since well-functioning education provides equal opportunities for students, it teaches them the skills necessary to places them into jobs, the social functions, for which they are best suited. According to conflict theories, education shapes students for capitalist purposes by training them for obedience or docility. The education curricula reflects the values and interests of dominant power groups. Agonism- conflict is not always a bad thing. In a society that has power and equality, oppression, having dominant groups to maintain status quo, sometimes struggle conflict and resolution happens in order to have progressive change.
