These are also the children who are dependent on the parents. This abuse happens in families where the parents lives have become overwhelming and the parent gives up parenting and doing the responsibilities of the. When youth are forced to take on adult responsibilities, because of parents clinical/ severe mental illness, this means that youth are required to pay the bills and therefore gain access to the parents bank accounts. Because everyone lives at home for so long, adolescents are not prepared to take on these responsibilities youth get angry that they have to fill in for the parent. No research parents do not report their children as abusing them/ not likely to be believed. They have the social, political and economic power over their children.
