Week 10-11: getting a job (chapter 7 & 13) Type of work also affects supply of labour and therefore wages. Supply of labour will be low: wages need to be high enough to attract potential workers compensate for the negative work related environment. If economics explained the human decision making, people would just work all the time . but they don"t. People are assets: we refer to them as human capital. If profit is not achieved, cost cutting must take place: labour is one place employers cut to lower expenses. Education and jobs: because education is strongly tied to the job one will acquire in the future. People put a lot of emphasis on education. In the past lower levels of education were required to get a middle class job, such as high school qualifications: today high school qualifications only allows you to pick up garbage for the city of toronto.
