Document Summary
Since the mid-1980"s, major media companies have been engaged in a. Feeding frenzy trying to swallow all competitors in order to create larger and larger conglomerates. Conglomerate: a combination of a business, in different commercial areas, all of which are owned by one holding company. Conglomerates have become more and more interested in acquiring the media market. Although media mergers are constantly occurring, what"s especially significant is that conglomerates who have traditionally traded in non- media products are increasingly realizing that media ownership serves their profit motives. The present majority members believe that, contrary to broadcast law, the free market of maximized profits is what constitutes the standard for what is in the public interest . The commercial media do not given people what they want: the case for the status quo those who believe that commercial media are doing a fine job are wrong.
