A society is a large group of people (e. g. canadian society) who interact with one another in accordance with the values, beliefs, customs, behaviours, and artefacts of a common culture. Were social animals survival depends upon social relationships w/ each other (eg. tom hanks developing a relationship w/ a ball in a deserted island in movie castaway). Were also cultural animals bc to survive together, we develop technologies, ways of communication, values, beliefs, and rules of living. Socialization is process where we learn our society"s culture. 4 characteristics of culture: culture is learned (not biological, culture is rooted in symbols (physical, vocal, and gestural signs)
