It is difficult to discuss research, methodology and indigenous peoples without understanding the complex ways in which the pursuit of knowledge is deeply embedded in the multiple layers of imperial and colonial practices. The power of research was not in the visits made by researchers to our communities, nor in their fieldwork and the rude questions they often asked . Indigenous values, beliefs, and behaviors must be incorporated into the praxis of participatory research.
