Document Summary

There are 3 major ingredients to propositional knowledge . Truth: acknowledging that you have truths to which you believe in. Justification: reasons as to why something you believe in is true. Plato believed that truth and belief weren"t enough for knowledge and introduced the concept of justification. In order to truly know something, all 3 ingredients must be present. Not everything you claim is true is the truth. Justified belief: despite a credible source, a statement may not be true knowledge. Jack is believed to be a very smart boy but it was found that he actually cheated on all his tests . The newspaper says mrs. brown won the election but it was found that that was actually a misprint . A lucky guess on a multiple choice question rendering a correct answer is not knowledge. Justified truth: justification rendering a true statement but lacks belief.
