Document Summary

Short cycle of training (few days-weeks) exposed to excessive training loads near/@ max capacity. Overload process = higher training volume, rest, improved performance. Negative overtraining syndrome = excessive, physical overload on athlete w/o adequate rest = decreased performance, inability to train @ norm levels. Positive overtraining syndrome = super-composition; improved performance. Deliberate strategy of exposure to high-volume, high-intensity training loads followed by lower training load (rest/taper stage) Goal = condition; so their performance speaks @ specific date/timeframe. Physiological state of overtraining = deteriorated athletic readiness. End-result of overtraining; when athlete has difficulty maintaining standard training regimens/no longer achieve previous performance results. Psychological symptoms = mood disturbances, increases in perceptual effort during exercise. Physical & emotional exhaustion = lost energy, interest, trust. Feelings of low personal accomplishment, self-esteem, failure, depression = low job productivity/ decreased performance level.
