Psychologists are uniquely qualified: we are the only people allowed to do it. Integral part of a treatment team: referral questions. 2 common ways: assessment focused assessment. One shot deal sometimes can be a few days not always one time. Provide picture of current circumstance focus on answering the question and the question only. Often done by someone else other than the therapist. But the therapist can do one themselves before moving onto intervention focused assessment: intervention focused assessment. You assess the therapy along with the patient so it takes a long time. Could be a diagnostic assessment to see what therapy to use referral questions require clarification: sometimes people say they want to know this but in reality it"s something else they want to know. Differential diagnosis: sometimes things overlap, and we want to know which diagnosis is more appropriate why do psychologists conduct assessments to understand, screening to better understand the individual.
