Anxiety is a mood state characterized by marked negative affect and symptoms of tension in which a person apprehensively anticipates future danger or misfortune (long-term state) Fear is an immediate alarm reaction to dangerous or life-threatening situations. Rates of comorbidity among anxiety and related disorders (and depression) are high. Anxiety disorders also co-occur with several physical conditions: 55% of anxiety or depressive disorder had current comorbid anxiety or depressive disorder, 75% of patients had lifetime comorbid diagnosis. Having any anxiety or related disorder uniquely increases the chances of having thoughts about suicide (suicidal ideation) or making suicidal attempts: the relationship is strongest with panic disorder (about 20%) Gray"s behavioral inhibition system (bis) (an anxiety response: septal hippocampal area frontal cortex. Fight/flight system (a fear response: panic, originates in brain stem midbrain structures, produces alarm-like response. For anxiety and panic suggest that people inherit the tendency to be anxious or highly emotional from birth or from environment.
