Diathesis- stress model
Projectile test
Implicit associate test (IAT) NO validity
oImplicit racism in Starbucks
o Cannot reprogram the conscious
Principle
o Priming (is valid) to some degree does work as a unconscious process
e.g using words such as wind and water to prime a response of boat
Subliminal Message study:
oMovie theatre quickly flash buy popcorn “to try to increase chances of people
buying popcorn”
PROBLEM: THIS STUDY NEVER HAPPENED, but is used by many as an
example
Cassette Tape
oSubliminal lessons for English and math were made to be listened to help
increase scores on tests
The English tape was really for math and vice versa
Results: Placebo effect
Implicit Test for self-esteem (considered bullshit by our dear prof)
oUsed letters, birthdays, numbers
oHigher scores on related things to the person meant higher self esteem and
vice versa
These ways of measure have NO scientific measure
A study took 7 of these tests for self esteem and ask people to do them all and
looked at the scores at all 7 they should correlate if they contain validity but they
didn't that's why there's no evidence
Narcs score high on these tests due to the inflated self esteem view they hold of
themselves Explicit (high ) and implicit (low)
