Advantages of theories: developmental theories provide a framework for understanding important phenomena. Theories help reveal significance of what is observed about children (research and everyday: developmental theories raise crucial questions about human nature, developmental theories lead to a better understanding of children. Varied amount of time b/w when they toy was hidden and when infant was allowed to reach for it. Even 6months could locate toy if given to them right away. 7 months could wait 2sec and still succeed. 8 months could wait 4 sec and sill succeed. Memory for location of toy + understanding toy still exists = crucial for success of tasks. Descriptions/observations convey texture of children"s thinking at different ages. Offers intuitively plausible depiction of the interaction of nature and nurture in cog. Children are inquisitive, seek to understand the world.
