Galton - first guy to give a definition to intelligence. Sir francis galton was a scientist and inventor, and was a cousin of charles darwin. He was interested in the advantages of high intelligence. He was the first person to come up with the definition of intelligence. He proposed the hypothesis: intelligence is the by-product of sensory capacity sensory capacity. He argued that most knowledge comes through our senses (especially vision and hearing) therefore, people with superior sensory capacities (ex. better eyesight) have more knowledge than other people. Results: one exceptional sense doesn"t bear much of a relation to other exceptional senses, nor are measures of sensory ability highly correlated with assessments of overall intelligence. Intelligence test: a diagnostic tool designed to measure over all thinking ability - measures higher mental processes.
