PSY 105 Lecture Notes - Lecture 7: Postcentral Gyrus, Frontal Lobe, Nougat
Document Summary
Neural plasticity: ability of the nervous system to change. We have a lot of neural plasticity (new synapses) before the age of 18. Myelinated pain cells: pain goes to brain quickly (highly myelinated) vs. ache. Schizophrenia presents itself after the age of 18 (it could be that pruning may occur improperly, breaking down connections that we needed to keep and keep connections that we needed to get rid of) Brain-behaviour network: sensory information comes into and decisions come out of. The central nervous system (cns): anything happening inside of your brain or spine. Divided into systems based on location/function: forebrain (front/cerebellum) 2 hemispheres connected by the corpus callosum (which allows communication between them) Majority of the forebrain is composed of the cerebral cortex (fpot- 4 main parts: frontal lobe: Executive function (control centre, decision-making) motor function (how we decide to move), language, memory. Oversees/organizes most other brain functions (executive functioning: overseeing other functions of the brain)
