Document Summary

: study of how we perceive sensory stimuli based on physical characteristics. Sensation: detection of psychical energy by the sense organs , begins with detectable stimulus. All perception is based on the person: absolute threshold: lowest level of stimulus needed for the nervous system to detect a change 50% of time. A dividing point between energy levels example: if we don"t press hard enough something, or light it too dim we will not detect anything. Human version is being able to hear a soft sound such as a whisper. Perception: the brains interpretation of raw sensory data example : roses, different perception if you were colour blind. Signal detection theory: how stimuli are detected under different conditions. Hit: talking and asking if someone can hear you and they say yes. Correct rejection: you did not hear something and you were not meant to hear something.
