Loud noises will trigger k complexes but you will not be consciously aware of sounds. Sensory information from environment is still received by the brain in this stage even though we are unconscious. If awoken during delta production, you feel: groggy and disoriented. Stage 4 is deeper than stage 3, and the brain is less active for more of the time in this stage. Paradoxical / wakelike brain is becoming more active than stages 3-4. Muscle paralysis in this stage than other stages, but brain is still active (body is not)
