Psychology: scientific study of mind, brain and behaviour. All levels are approached: social culture influences, psychological, and biological. Dispositional attribution: explains an individuals behaviour as a result of internal characteristics rather than external influences. Influences are dependent on one another (social containgent) Written by old white dudes, women and poc ignored. Theoretical development: not linear, did not build on each other. Psychology in scientific community through improved research methods. Explains underlying mechanism, predict behaviour. (past behaviour is the best predictor, routine. ) Process based approach, concerned with groups not individuals. Deterministic view: behaviour explained in terms of biological, electrical and chemical changes in the brain. Humanistic psychology: we can predict behaviour, not through deterministic laws, but based on common culture, values, language, development and attitudes. Wanted to create a periodic table of elements of consciousness. Application of evolutionary theory in modern psychology. Psych should focus on observable behaviour (only what is seen exists) Human behaviour explained by eternal variables (reward/punishment)
