Politics = polis : ancient greeks athens, first experiments with democracy, encouraged to hold public office, could vote, etc. Decisions become more complicated and more numerous when the group is as large as today. Someone needs to ensure there is water, healthcare, etc. and how to pay for them. Human beings have only been living in complex societies for about 5000 years: revolutionary shift discovery of agriculture allowed for more focus on other developments and technologies. It allowed for a surplus of food which meant they did not have to worry about obtaining food 24/7. Gave them the ability to stay in one place instead of constantly moving around looking for new food and other resources. Could start building permanent living spaces i. e. cities. Individual countries want to reserve power for themselves don"t want the un to make decisions that will affect them in negative ways: result: decision making gets difficult.
