Theory helps us understand the hows and whys. Proposed explanation for a phenomenon based on empirical evidence. Theories for where dreams come from, why, how. Psychoanalysis where we dream things because we have unresolved issues in real life we need to deal with. Powering down (to get a break, brain powers down so we dream crazy things) Descriptive (why things happen the way they do) Normative (how things should be functioning or could be) Ex: one political party keeps winning because of various theories . Theories are not synonymous with opinions or ideologies. Theories are not facts but rater explanations for facts in our world. Perspectives are general approaches to conduct research. Being able to criticize after identifying ideologies within media and surrounding technologies. Usually unconscious ideas/ beliefs about the world. We all have our own ideologies ex: classism (lower, upper, middle class) Any social progress in society should come slowly and with a certain order.
