Status of canadian film industry and how it relates to politics. Significant component of the economy (many jobs created, not all of them are directly related. Include electricians, caterers and anything that"s related to the process) about 13 billion dollars are produced. Some of the films are sold outside of canada. Provide a bunch of taxes to the provincial and federal government. French side of the industry is successful, but the english part isn"t, and this is a problem. Canadian government wanted the total number % to go up to 5% in 2001. French people wanted to see their own cultures and themselves reflected in movies, but english canadians want to see american movies which is why. Why are french canadian movies so successful: language. Many people in quebec speak french (pretty much all people) , a lot of them don"t speak english. Therefore, these films have a guaranteed audience: funding from both federal and (some) provincial government.
