Mathew brady was one of the first well-known photographer (lots of photography regarding the civil war - burning cities, battlefields) Cinema is part of the technological revolution. It was first scene as a gimmick / unsubstantial form of entertainment. Eadweard muybridge is c redited with inventing the moving image in 1877. Muybridge was hired by stanford to come up with a photographic sequence to see if a horse ever has all four feet off the ground. Jules marey is credited with creating the first motion picture camera (1880s)
