Evolution of the canadian state - week 2. Has led to con ict with native peoples in other places. In canada, britain decided to use formal treaties to acquire native lands. Laws should be as close as possible to britain"s. More tolerant approach, leading to 1774 quebec act. However, the durham report in 1839makes a nal attempt to assimilate the french, recommending uniting upper and lower canada into one province. From the times of the american revolution (1776), united empire loyalists come to canada. They bring an expectation of self-rule ( no taxation without representation ) and town hall meetings. Taxed by british parliament without being present in the parliament (said tax used for defence or postal service but people had no say) Boom and bust economy, depending on world events.
