What is policy evaluation: stage of the policy process at which it is determined how a public policy has actually faired in action. Purpose of policy evaluation: support policy development, modify/improve/policy program, measure/track/policy program performance, determine citizen satisfaction, terminate policy/program, assess policy efficiency, ^, thus this can determine if the policy has been a success/failure. Examples of a policy failure: residential school"s policy: was designed to colonize people against their will. Failed policy of forced assimilation and the consequences are still alive today: cod fishery policies: demise of the cod fishery off newfoundland 2 decades ago is now legendary as an environmental disaster. Policy failure because thousands of plant workers were laid off indefinitely and loss of northern cod. Broad types of evaluation: administrative evaluation, usually undertaken within a government, occasionally by specialist agencies whose only task is to evaluate policies, but more often by financial and political oversees attached to existing government departments, legislatures, and judiciaries.
