Document Summary
Nation state: a sovereign state based on people living in a country who share a sense of being a member of a particular nation. Nation states have their own characteristics, differing from those of the pre-national states. For a start, they have a different attitude to their territory, compared to dynastic monarchies. They share the same history, traditions or language and are all ruled under the same, one government. Examples of nation states include albania, egypt, north and south. This concept is important to understand while studying politics because it is another example of how different countries around the world function. We have discussed different governments, whether they are democratic, communist, commonwealth, islamic republic. It is important also to discuss nation states so that we can compare the ideologies of different countries and analyze their effectiveness in terms of economic growth, crime rate (depending on the severity of punishment) and such.
