Senses work together (ie. if we hear something we have an expectation of what we will see) Our perception tries to construct the world as a whole. Perception depends on where we set ourselves up (ie. clouds move when looking up at building, building moves when we concentrate on clouds) For a film to work, filmmakers must understand how audience will perceive it. Perception of film based on the sequence of shots (montage) Works with what ponty says as we see montage as whole rather than each individual scene as standalone parts. People largely perceive things the same way (barring cultural/language differences) On the origin of objects (book about cognition) Why we see the world in terms of objects. Ponty goal is to have us be made more aware of our aesthetic experience (film, visual arts, literature) and day to day life.
