Kierkegaard 5: religious salvation and the unrecognizable one. Highest state of life is christian religion. An age caught up in reflection, an age of levelling, an age of of publicity and abstraction. A public commitment to something that is not rational (religion) it is profoundly paradoxical and offensively irrational, can only be believed if one accepts the limitations of reason. Faith = a personal relationship that cannot be cast in a general principle. Stages of life"s way: immediate certainty cannot encompass temporal change, so this position has to acknowledge its own limitations (in the form of despair; contradiction with yourself). All of these stages undergoes the discovery of its own inadequacy. consciousness needs to go through its own errors that it goes through its stages and forms in order to get to true knowing. Momentary enjoyment but won"t commit to anything (don juan) Fear of boredom, so you want immediacy, momentariness and repetition.
