Nse 21 - nursing theory ii: concepts, individual and family. Why study stress: every human being experiences stress on various levels, knowledge of stress allows nurses to assist others (patients, families, friends, self) to effectively cope = value. Factors affecting response to stressors: when experiencing stress there are both internal and external influences. External factors: biology and genetics (age, health status, personality, personal health practise (nutrition, sleep pattern, coping skills (previous experience with stress) Income and social support: social support networks, social environment (timing and # of stressors, culture (religion, spirituality, ethnicity) Attitude: to discuss theoretical approaches to the selected concept. Theoretical approaches to stress: general adaptation syndrome (gas, social readjustment, cognitive appraisal. During bscn exam period, at the beginning of the exam period we feel stressed, but are physically well and alert.
