Critical thinking is central to professional nursing practice because it allows you to test and refine nursing approaches, learn from successes and failures etc. Complex phenomenon that can be defined as a process and as a set of skills. Thinking emphasizes the use of logic and reasoning to make accurate clinical judgments. Rn find what is essential, imagine and find alts, consider ethics, make informed decisions. Evidence informed knowledge- knowledge based on research or clinical expertise makes you an informed critical thinker. Crit thinking requires cognitive skills and unique thinking. Defines the outcome of critical thinking: nursing judgment that is relevant to nursing problems. Critical thinking in nursing- incorporates three levels of critical thinking in nursing: basic, complex and commitment. Learner trusts that experts have the right answers for every problem. Answers to complex problems are right or wrong. Modifications are not made without reason, follow the purpose of the task. Separate thinking processes from those of authority.
