You will hear 10 songs we haven"t listened to in class but that are representative of genres/styles we have explored. Rock"n"roll brought styles previously on the margins to the mainstream, including rhythm and blues and country music. Older styles played on pop radio and available in record shops. Rock n"roll not a new style nor a single style, nor the first style marketed to youth. It was a marketing term for identifying an audience. Marketed to the baby boom generation which, was younger than previous. As jazz evolved with recordings, rock"n"roll evolved with tv. Canada caught between russia and the us, works with the us. Fear of communism, witch hunts for suspected communist sympathizers, many of whom were artists and intellectuals. Consistent fear of nuclear war influences all levels of culture. Still an influence on international relations today, as western powers still want to control who has nuclear technology.
