The nature of organizations is at least partially described by the way in which employees are organized. The reporting relationship among individuals and groups is known as the organizational structure and enables: Present for centuries in church, government, and military illustrations. Top designated leader has overall responsibility for the entire bureaucracy and is responsible to external stakeholders (shareholders, investors, banks, etc) This is for the successful execution of all organizational objectives. His/her team of reports have narrower focus, and have responsibility for subsets of the organizational objectives. Each vice president may have a team of managers responsible for important dimensions of their portfolio. These managers may have a group of employees executing required job functions. President has overall responsibility for the entire operation, but the vice presidents have more specific areas of focus, and in turn the managers have even narrower areas of focus.
