Authority differentiation refrs to the degree that decision-making responsibility is distributed throughout the team (low differentiation) or is vested in one or a few members of the team. Informal groups are groups that exist primarily for the benefit of their members. Human drive to bond is hardwired through evolutionary development, creating a need to belong to informal group. Social identity we define ourselves by group memberships. They accomplish personal objectives that cannot be achieved alone. Teams make better decisions, develop better products/services and create more engaged workforce than do employees working alone.
