Def: ethics is the criical, structured examinaion of how individuals and insituions should behave when their acions afect others. Criical because it is about more than just describing exising paterns of behaviour. Structured because it is about more than intuiions and gut reacions. It is about providing reasoned arguments for why we should (or should not) behave certain ways. I stopped to help at the accident scene because it was the right thing to do. A good person doesn"t lie to her friends. I admire him because of his integrity. : ethical reasoning. Figuring out the right thing to do is usually easy: you were raised well, and so you do the right thing most of the ime: you are all basically decent, honest people! Ethics becomes harder when important ethical values or principles conlict. Ethical judgment involves weighing compeing values or principles: there is no formula for doing this!
