Document Summary

There are three general types of torts that may cause injury to another person. In civil law, torts are grounds for lawsuits to compensate a grieving party for any damages or injuries suffered. Tortfeasor is a person who commits a tort: a tort is: (cid:862)a failure to fulfill a pri(cid:448)ate o(cid:271)ligatio(cid:374) i(cid:373)posed (cid:271)y la(cid:449)(cid:863) Tort law includes almost every sort of private law wrong outside of breach of contract. The obligation in tort law is owed to a person: after the case itself, the aggrieved party can sue the tortfeaser for damages, etc. Crime: breach of a public obligation (i. e. an obligation owed to society, rather than to any person, even if the crime affects a specific person). the government prosecutes the accused on behalf of the whole community. Inflicted/strict liability: commit the act, all you must do is prove that the act was committed and this is the easiest type of tort to prove in the court.
