Chapter 1 from beginning to end: an overview of. An information system is a set of interrelated components that collect, process, store, and provide as output the information needed to complete business tasks. A computer application is a software program that executes on a a computing device to carry out a specific function or set or related functions. Information systems includes people and their manual procedures and an application refers just to the software. System analysis and system design are key components of the process by which an information system is created from perceived need to actual use. It consists of activities that enable a person to understand and specify what the system must do to satisfy the need or solve the problem. It consists of activities that enable a person to describe in detail how the info system will actually be implemented to provide the needed solutions (how the system will work).
