Could not agree on peace terms for germany. Also divided on ideological lines (communism vs. democracy, which are fundamentally different) Had been allies against germany; their defeat caused the ties that bonded them to disappear. Germany gets divided between us, france, britain, and the soviet union. Soviets are aggressive & soviet communism inherently imperialistic. Soviets acting in defensive manner; concerned over their own security. A revisionist school realized that russia was acting the way they had always done. Similar to actions of us; never would"ve tolerated unfriendly neighbour governments. Roots of cold war can be traced back into war (and pre-war) period. Ussr signed the charter of the un and became one of the founding members. Everyone went to war over the invasion of poland; they win the war, and yet soviet now has dominative control of poland. Soviets would not permit an unfriendly government on western borders.
