GCM 111 Lecture Notes - Lecture 6: Flexography, List Of Recurring Futurama Characters, Latent Image
Document Summary
Define the areas and shapes that will be printed. May or may not come into direct contact with substrate. Can be inexpensive to make or very costly. Can be directly imaged using a laser. Different plates have their own unique characteristics. Flexographic printing plates: carbon mask, floor, shoulder. All conventional printing processes have a printing plate for each colour printed: cmyk job would have 4 plates, a black and pms 286 would have 2 plates, a cmyk and pms 268 job would have 5 plates. Inks are laid down sequentially, colours by colour, one at a time, to create the desired image. Planographic: image and non-image area are on the same plane. Image and non-image area are separated chemically: image area is oleophillic; likes oil, non-image area is hydrophilic; likes water. Plate is first coated with fountain solution, attracted to the non-image area, and repelled from image area.
