Printing: a means of graphic communications: the reproduction of quantities of images, mainly on paper, all have one thing in common: each has a visible image produced in quantities of one or more. Modern printing has become highly sophisticated and less analog in nature: printing has transformed almost completely from an art to a science. First : known attempt at visual records: 30,000 years ago. After ideographs came the persian"s cuneiforms, then hieroglyphics (2500bc), then the phoenetic alphabet (1500bc: example of printing from movable type. Clay disc in the phaistos palace ruins about 1500 bc. 2: credited for combining movable cast metal type, ink, paper, and a press to produce printing. Ts"ai lun: credited with the invention of paper in 105 ad.
