Lecture 7b: printing processes webfed offset lithography. Pages are printed form a roll of paper. Blanket-to-blanket design (both pages printed at the same time no impression cylinder. Instead two blanket cylinders transferring ink to both sides of the web, inking unit on top and bottom, mirror image) Can be either heatset or coldset drying. Splice very important for right timing and right section: can"t be too tight or web will rip. Most presses are able to take minimum 8-page signature. Press printing 32-page signature at a time. 16 page signature has 8 pages each side. Plate goes into chemical bath; chemicals remove excess coating. Plate then goes into oven to fix layout. All books were printed by traditional means: on web offset press. Will have their page count as a multiple of 8 (signatures)
