You need the closeness the city has to be able to trade: manufacturing can also not take place in the countryside. You need to bring a bunch of people to work on one product. You can"t have someone in the remote part of the country and have the products moved from one part to another. You need to have all the workers in the same place: administration, a city produces goods and services. Some of these goods and services are for the people that live in the city. The city needs to produce for export too. Reason for this is to that we need to sell good and services for agricultural needs and to fulfill our needs and buy things we need to survive such as food. Reproduction: to produce something you need workforce.
