Through time, social mix went through ups and downs some time periods popular and less popular in others: died down in 1960s, came back in 1970s propelled by jane jacobs. Because of her book published in 1961. Very strong support for social mix communities. After ww2, social mix was not popular at all. Most of development of suburbs happened after ww2: used to be homogeneous areas mostly whites, suburbs were anything but compatible with social mix. In 1970s : canadians started to get excited about social mix.
