• What is Environment? Env is our surrounding - living organisms, natural resources, water -
anything around us
Environment is the total sum of all surroundings of living organism, including natural
forces and other living things

• What is Technology?
Technology is the collection of techniques, methods or processes used in the production
of goods, services etc., such as scientific investigation
Compared to science - what is the diff b/w technology and science - technology is the
application of science
science is the knowledge and technology is the application of that knowledge for example:
why is it warm here: this is science - how can we fix it: ex. How can we make the temp
cold? That is technology ex AC
• Benefits of Technology
• We are able to do our jobs/tasks faster, process and manage information faster, helps
people collect information
• Able to perform everyday tasks faster
• Able to process information, manage and keep records better
• Helps people gather information, learn, enjoy entertainment and communicate
• Technology, made human life so easy, now its hard to think about living without it makes
life easier/convenient ex: using laptops and slides in classrooms vs notebooks and
blackboards

Nuclear power is good and bad, it depends on how we use it - is driving a car good or bad?

• Nuclear technology has been around since the middle of the twentieth century;
masterminded under intense global military pressures, nuclear technology raises many
questions about the value of technology that has the capability to render the planet unfit
for human occupation

This is not saying that we should not use resources because our future generations need them ex. We have limited amount of oil on earth so we have to use this oil in a way so that the future generation also has the opportunity to use this oil. In terms of water if we use water for our consumption, then we have to generate other resources in order to ensure that future generations have water too. So this is the balance between growth and development - so it"s not all about growth and consumption and about development too: protecting the environment.
