Food processor: large stone was used by some of the first farmers in syria to grind cereal grains to make flour. Types of grass/ grain that has regional or national importance. Rye: a plant that originated in the middle east. Caucasus mountains = wild rye food potential by humans and domesticated it to improve. Rye is the wheat of allah (wheat of god) b/c when other crops fail, rye does not. Predominant grain of europe from 1000 b. c. until columbus came. Can be made into bread but cannot make bread out of rye by itself - rye adds colour, texture, and flavour (bitter) = has to be blended with wheat. Considered coarser than wheat and inferior to wheat.
