It should be apparent that using distance and especially, interaction to define what neighborhoods are, is difficult. Process with many links by which housing stock becomes available to different socio-economi groups throughout their life cycles as cities grow. Closely related to: lifecycle, age of housing infrastructure, housing stock type, relative propoerity, size and stage of the citys evolution. Upwards filtering refers to the movement of people from lower valued housing to higher valued housing as their family income and life cycle stage changes. Increasingly, concept of neighborhood has been used to identify consumer segments for the purpose of targeting junk mail, analysing market penetration and the like. Companies develop sophisticated data mining tools that label consumer segment on the basis of their demographics, psychographics and location. Dependency ratio and the sandwich generation: 0-15, 65.
