Primary deficiencies - not taking enough in, can be added in by eating more of that nutrient. Ex not eating foods with certain nutrients. Secondary deficiencies caused by something like being in a diseased state or drug/substance use. Ex low b12 caused by long term metformin use or hyperthyroid conditions or breast cancer causing weight gain. Looks at individuals or groups for the purpose of planning person healthcare or community a program. Obtained from dietary, biochemical, anthropometric and clinical (health history/past prescriptions) studies.
