Urged women to help with wwi effort. Women over 30 got the vote in the us. It was inappropriate to do demonstrations during war: movement against slavery helped feminists surface. 19th century: alice paul and lucy burns fought for the right of women to vote: vote in all major states. After war, pattern of life changed and women got the vote in 1920: only for women over 21. 1925: very short, 3 inches below the knee: never before had women shown bare legs, flesh coloured stockings came into trend, short skirts were denounced by the church. Arch bishop of naples blamed an earthquake on the anger of god due to short skirts. 1926: acceptance of short skirts: weldon"s journal showed variations, silhouette was tubular in ads and popularized slim boyish look. Advertisments played a big role (tablets, slimming soap) No restrictions on ads and people believe whatever they read.
